To protect local state parks and beaches, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks flew through 2010 wearing a super hero cape—aided by their faithful partners at Miller Maxfield. When the state cut funding for lifeguards, Miller Maxfield delivered strategy, messaging and high-impact media relations for their Save Our Lifeguards campaign. To raise more money for ever-underfunded parks, Miller Maxfield promoted and rebranded Friends' retail ParkStores, and developed an online sales strategy to increase sales of Friends' memberships. The results? The lifeguard program was saved, holiday sales in the ParkStores were up nearly 10% for 2010, and the online sales effort increased Friends' memberships by 25% in just 24 hours. ... Ranch

It started several years ago with a mission to promote events at Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR) and evolved into dynamic effort to tell ACR's compelling and complex story. Founded 50 years ago to stop development in West Marin and save one of the largest heronries on the west coast, ACR now manages over 3,500 acres of native habitat preserves in Marin and Sonoma Counties, focused on habitat protection and restoration, conservation science and environmental education programs.
